MSR CLASSICS

MSR Classics is an independent record label committed to a culture of musical excellence and superlative support for the recording artist. Founded in 1997, MSR offers the recording artist the means to create a Compact Disc of the finest quality, and distribute it in a worldwide marketplace. In a time when major record labels are less willing and able to accommodate the recording aspirations of many classical musicians, such a service is invaluable. MSR Classics is managed by Robert LaPorta, a 20-year veteran of the recording industry, who has served as Classical Director of the EMI Classics and Virgin Classics labels, Manager of Marketing and Special Products at PolyGram Classics & Jazz (which included the Deutsche Grammophon, London-Decca, Philips Classics, ECM, Mercury and Verve labels), and Publicity Manager at ICM Artists management in New York.

  • Sonia Marie De Leon de Vega

Sonia Marie De Leon de Vega is one of the most commanding figures in music in the region – Her exhilarating vision for classical music is energizing the arts in our community in many ways. She has recently received international attention on Univision’s “Orgullo Hispano” a profile that is reserved for the most accomplished Hispanic artists in the world. She was voted as one of the “100 most influential Hispanics in the United States” and voted one of the “80 Elite Hispanic Women” by Hispanic Business Magazine. Last September Ms. De Leon de Vega was named Local Hero by KCET which aired a profile on Ms. De Lon de Vega throughout Hispanic Heritage Month.

De Vega is also energizing the arts through the Orchestra’s educational and outreach program “Discovering Music.” The program introduces Latino children and families in underserved areas in Los Angeles to classical music and the instruments of the orchestra, and provides orchestra concerts in their own community. The program includes children’s choirs and an extensive instrumental program that provides free violin lessons to over 200 children in the communities of Northeast Los Angeles.

  • Paul Potts, tenor

Paul Potts (born 13 October 1970 in Bristol, England), from Port Talbot in South Wales, is a British singer who became the winner of the first series of ITV's Britain's Got Talent, singing operatic arias and impressing the judges in all of his performances. Potts had previously worked in unpaid opera productions from 1999 to 2003. However, a series of illnesses combined with a bicycle accident in 2003 brought an end to his amateur opera career. At the time of his 2007 victory on Britain's Got Talent, he had been working in The Carphone Warehouse, but following his win, he has been signed by the show's judge Simon Cowell to record an album....ONE CHOICE...

  • Jay Greenberg

Jay Greenberg, the kid composer who got a big-time recording contract in the summer of 2006, has scored again: His violin concerto had its world premiere Sunday at Carnegie Hall with Joshua Bell as soloist and Roberto Abbado leading the Orchestra of St. Luke's.

The work, which combines a teenager's rambunctiousness with a mature master's sophistication, shows that the 15-year-old composer is for real.

By the time Sony released Greenberg's first CD in August 2006, he had already written more than 100 works, including five symphonies, 17 piano sonatas and three piano concertos.

The violin concerto, written for Bell and commissioned by the chamber orchestra for its 33rd season, is Greenberg's first for the instrument.
