Daniel Hope (born 17 August 1974) is a British classical violinist.

Hope was born in Durban, South Africa, and moved as a child with his family to London, where he received tuition by Yehudi Menuhin. Hope is the son of South African poet and novelist, Christopher Hope, FRSL. His violin is the 1737Guarneri "ex-Lipinski". In 2011 he was appointed Visiting Professor in Violin by the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied under Zakhar Bron and gained a diploma (DipRAM) and a fellowship (FRAM). Hope presented the documentary film The Secrets of the Violin which explored the history of violin making from Amati, Stradivari and Guarneri to modern makers like Samuel Zygmuntowicz.

Peter Hofman dies at 66

German tenor Peter Hofmann, who became famous for his performances of Richard Wagner operas, died Tuesday, 29 November 2010. He died at a hospital in Wunsiedel in Bavaria. The mass-circulation newspaper Bild also reported Hofmann's death after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Hofmann made his name performing at the annual Bayreuth festival celebrating the music of Richard Wagner. He toured stages across the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

      Amsterdam Philharmonic. One of the pioneers of research into performance
      practice of early music, he became a member of the Leonhardt Consort in

      Musicus, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.

    Opera singer Marilyn Horne is 75


    Marilyn Horne (b. January 16, 1934, Bradford, Pennsylvania) is an American mezzo-soprano opera singer who is particularly associated with the music of Rossini and Handel. She began her career as a light lyric soprano however as the years progressed, the voice settled and matured into a mezzo-soprano instrument with a full and rich timbre equipped with extreme flexibility and great size. She specialized in roles requiring a large sound, beauty of tone, excellent breath support, and the ability to execute difficult coloratura passages.

    Opera Australia has been shocked by the sudden death of British conductor Richard Hickox, the company's music director. Hickox, 60, suffered a heart attack in London. The news was still filtering out tonight to members of Opera Australia. A shocked Murray Black, The Australian's Sydney opera and classical music critic, said one of Hickox's legacies would be his versatility as a conductor.

    Sabine Heinefetter Soprano Born 19 Aug 1809 Mainz Died 18 Nov 1872 at Illenau, Baden. Beginning life as a strolling harpist, she was noticed by a Frankfort musician, who instructed her in music. In 1825 she studied under Spohr at Cassel, and under Tadolini in Paris. In 1829 she sang at the Paris Italian opera with Sontag and Malibran, and in 1835 accepted an engagement at the Dresden court theater. Great success in Berlin, Vienna, Milan, and other cities with chief rôles in Romeo, Anna Bolena, Norma, and Rosine. In 1844 she appeared for the last time in Frankfort. In 1853 she married a French merchant named Marquet, in Marseilles.
    Debut in Mandarin (Ritter) Teachers:- Giovanni Tadolini, Davide Banderali Created Adina in Elisir D'Amore (Donizetti).

    Welsh composer Alun Hoddinott has died

    Welsh composer and pianist Alun Hoddinott has died at the age of 78, it has been announced. Mr Hoddinott, who was born in Bargoed, Caerphilly, had a partnership with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales spanning seven decades. The classical composer, who lived in Gower, Swansea, died at the city's Morriston Hospital on Wednesday.
