Jussi JALAS


23 JUNE 1908 Birth of Finnish conductor Jussi JALAS. Sibelius' son-in-law, born in Jyvaskyla. Armas Veikko Jussi Jalas (until 1944) aka Jussi Blomstedt. Died October 1985. He was a famous Finnish conductor and among other things, the Finnish National Orchestra and the Finnish National Opera conductor. Jalas taught at the Sibelius Academy. He also recorded as pianist. Jussi Jalas's father was architect George Blomstedt. Jalas's wife Margaret was composer Jean Sibelius's daughter.
